On some TV brands and models you cannot access the advanced menu features without an original remote. A good example would be service mode or to adjust the convergence. In these cases Universal remotes simply do not work - they are not 100% universal despite what they claim.

Also, in most cases - you will not need the original remote again once you have made the adjustments. Simply make the adjustments - then save the settings to the TV.
